Job Description
Job Title: Marketing & Communications Director-NYC based Category: Healthcare Location: New York Job Description: The American Heart Association and the William J. Clinton Foundation joined together in May 2005 to create the Alliance for a Healthier Generation to address one of the nation's leading public health threats ' childhood obesity. The Alliance focuses on preventing childhood obesity and creating healthier lifestyles for all children and targets several areas to spark change and reduce the increasing rates of childhood obesity in the U.S. The effort focuses on four key areas: industry, schools, healthcare, and kids. The Alliance for a Healthier Generation's Communications & Marketing Director will lead the communications, media relations and marketing department. This person will be responsible for the development and implementation of all of the organization's marketing, communications, and public relations activities, both external and internal. The position reports to the Alliance's Executive Director. Departmental Responsibilities Include: 'Provide strategic direction on all Alliance marketing and communications matters. 'Oversee development and implementation of strategic and tactical marketing and communication plans for specific Alliance initiatives (schools, industry, healthcare and kids' movement) in coordination with Initiative Directors. 'Build and manage the Alliance brand. 'Secure and manage relationships with media partners, celebrities, and other prominent third parties to target Alliance audiences with relevant Alliance messaging. 'Lead and coordinate the writing, editing and design of all Alliance communication materials including quarterly newsletters, outreach materials, e-newsletters, published reports and printed materials. 'Work with the American Heart Association and Clinton Foundation Communications Teams to coordinate national and local affiliate media activities. 'Work with Web Manager to oversee web content and development of Alliance websites and Alliance content on Clinton Foundation and American Heart Association websites. 'Act as a point person for all Alliance marketing, media and communications related requests from the American Heart Association and Clinton Foundation including providing content for Annual Reports and talking points for speeches. 'Stay informed and update the Alliance team on current events related to childhood obesity and kids' health through research and daily news searches. 'Supervise communications/marketing team staff members, including Communications & Marketing Managers, Web Manager and a Graphic Designer. 'Supervise staff and interns who work on Alliance correspondence. 'Work collaboratively on all facets of Alliance marketing and communications with the American Heart Association and William J. Clinton Foundation. Experience: Minimum Requirements: '10 plus years of experience in public relations, social marketing, advertising, and media relations 'Sharp news sense and politically savvy 'Experience in strategic communications planning 'Experience managing national communications campaigns/programs 'Experience with leading the implementation of a company or organizational brand 'Demonstrated ability to cultivate and sustain relationships with a variety of media outlets that yield earned media opportunities or media partnerships 'Extensive experience both writing and copy editing for a variety of diverse audiences 'Positive, can-do team player brimming with ideas; proactive leader with courage to try new things 'Creative ability with strong sense of design 'Mature, credible, and comfortable in dealing with senior company and media executives 'Excellent ability to prioritize, organize and manage details 'Excellent written communication skills, with impeccable grammar and spelling 'Ability to travel 30-50% of time To apply and for more information about the American Heart Association, visit: www.americanheart.org/careers The Alliance for a Healthier Generation is proud to be an equal opportunity employer that aims to deliver culturally appropriate messages and services to all youth.
